Taking the Cloudera Developer Training for Apache Hadoop had many rewards — one of which was a free voucher to take the CCD-410 Exam (normally $295) which you must pass to get CCDH certified. I’m not sure if that’s a Cloudera University or Global Knowledge thing, but either way it was definitely a bonus.
I’m happy to say that I took the exam today and passed, and am now officially a Cloudera Certified Developer for Apache Hadoop (CCDH). It was definitely a well written exam and one of the tougher ones I’ve done. But oh so rewarding. If you’re planning on taking it, I highly recommend reading the Exam Guide to learn the kind of things you need to focus on. It certainly helped me. The class of course was a huge help and is highly recommended.
We’ll see where it goes from here. It’s amazing the breadth of data technology available out there, and it can be insanely overwhelming keeping track of the MongoDBs and Cassandras and Riaks and Neo4Js and Hadoops and HBases. Oh yeah, and Oracle. But there are those technologies–like Hadoop–which I don’t think should be ignored.
Now it’s up to me to put this knowledge and CCDH designation to good use! Next stop, Cloudera Certified Professional Data Scientist! Right?
Not to sound too much like a crying hip hop artist at the VMAs, but I do want to thank Rich Morrow (my instructor for the Cloudera training), Tom White (the insanely brilliant author of Hadoop: The Definitive Guide), and Gwen Shapira (another insanely brilliant person who got me interested in Hadoop in the first place and put up with my questions).
Congrats on passing . . . waiting to hear when you get the CCP Data Scientist.
Congratulations Steve! Great job!
Congratulations, Steve! That is one of those things I never find the time to dig into, because the Oracle Database is already such a large animal 🙂
Steve, Congratulations. I am planning on taking the exam next week. My java skills aren’t the strongest either. How much Java is in the overall exam?
Steve, Congratulations. I would like to take this exam after 3months. Could you tell me what all skills I need and study materials I need to follow.(nimmalal@yahoo.com)
Congrats steve…as Lohith commented, would it would be fine if one would skip the training and through sel-study and practise tried to attend the exam. The course is too expensive as far as i am concerned.
Lohith and Ajay,
The web page for the certification exam has practice tests and a study guide right there, telling you exactly what to research for each section of the exam: http://www.cloudera.com/content/cloudera/en/training/certification/ccdh.html
Yes, with the right study you can probably pass the test without taking the course. However, the course was undeniably indispensable.
