Comments Fixed
To anyone who has tried to post comments to my blog entries, I greatly appreciate it and I am sorry that the comments did not go through! I recently updated the mod_security parameters on my server, and it appears that the new rules break some WordPress functionality. I have approved
When errors tell you absolutely nothing!
The task was simple… Oh yes, hello by the way. It has been a while since I’ve posted! Anyways, like I said, the task was simple. Migrate an Oracle 10.1.0.3 32-bit database on one server to 10.2.0.3 64-bit on another server, and do it with only 1 hour of downtime.
Say Goodbye to LIKE, and Hello to Oracle Text
Don Burleson recently posted a great article on using Oracle Text indexes to make up for the horrible performance issues caused by ‘%LIKE%’ queries on large blocks of text. Welcome to the 26th edition of Log Buffer, a Carnival of the Vanities Blog for DBAs. In addition, welcome to a new year! 2007 is shaping up to be a very interesting year for the database world, and some of the recent posts in the blogosphere should help you see
Holy Disk Crash!
It’s funny, right after writing The Day the DB Died, the American Pie parody about a DBA that loses their database and their job due to not having backups…the disk dies on my non-backed-up dedicated server that houses this website. Oracle Alchemist was down for a while, but he wasn’t
GQLPlus – Command Line Goodness
I just found a link to a command line wrapper for SQL*Plus called GQLPlus. Supposedly this wrapper allows historical editing, table/column name completion, and more. Even better, it’s just a precompiled drop-in with SQL Plus. Download and run; nothing else is required. From the website: “gqlplus is a drop-in replacement
